Shaman's Trance

The collection, Shaman's Trance, is inspired by the traditions and art of the San Bushmen of the Kalahari desert in South Africa. Many of the San cave paintings and surviving imagery depict the entoptic phenomenon which appeared to tribal shaman during a trance state.  During these trances, sacred persons saw visions, appearing as dots, grids, sunbursts, and other common shapes.  These visions were highly sacred and regarded as both guidance and protection. Through the research of this precious tribe, I learned that the Bushmen are currently fighting the government of Botswana for access to their Sacred hunting grounds and clean water after diamonds were discovered on their reservation.
